Set up and Use Internet Connection Sharing
Enabling ICS:-
The ICS host computer needs two network connections. The local area network connection, automatically created by installing a network adapter, connects to the computers on your home or small office network. The other connection, using a 56k modem, ISDN, DSL, or cable modem, connects the home or small office network to the Internet. You need to ensure that ICS is enabled on the connection that has the Internet connection. By doing this, the shared connection can connect your home or small office network to the Internet, and users outside your network are not at risk of receiving inappropriate addresses from your network. When you enable ICS, the local area network connection to the home or small office network is given a new static IP address and configuration. Consequently, TCP/IP connections established between any home or small office computer and the ICS host computer at the time of enabling ICS are lost and need to be reestablished. For example, if Internet Explorer is connecting to a Web site when Internet Connection Sharing is enabled, refresh the browser to reestablish the connection. You must configure client machines on your home or small office network so TCP/IP on the local area connection obtains an IP address automatically. Home or small office network users must also configure Internet options for Internet Connection Sharing. To enable Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) Discovery and Control on Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Millennium Edition computers, run the Network Setup Wizard from the CD or floppy disk on these computers. For ICS Discovery and Control to work on Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Millennium Edition computers, Internet Explorer version 5.0 or later must be installed.
To enable Internet Connection Sharing on a network connection You must be logged on to your computer with an owner account in order to complete this procedure. Open Network Connections. (Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double–click Network Connections.)
Click the dial–up, local area network, PPPoE, or VPN connection you want to share, and then, under Network Tasks, click Change settings of this connection.
On the Advanced tab, select the Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection check box. If you want this connection to dial automatically when another computer on your home or small office network attempts to access external resources, select the Establish a dial–up connection whenever a computer on my network attempts to access the Internet check box.
If you want other network users to enable or disable the shared Internet connection, select the Allow other network users to control or disable the shared Internet connection check box.
Under Internet Connection Sharing, in Home networking connection, select any adapter that connects the computer sharing its Internet connection to the other computers on your network. The Home networking connection is only present when two or more network adapters are installed on the computer.
To configure Internet options on your client computers for Internet Connection Sharing Open Internet Explorer. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Internet Explorer.)
On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
On the Connections tab, click Never dial a connection, and then click LAN Settings. In Automatic configuration, clear the Automatically detect settings and Use automatic configuration script check boxes.
In Proxy Server, clear the Use a proxy server check box.

Increase your internet speed as much as 20%...I'ts Working Great for Me
To get it back:
Click Start then Run and type " gpedit.msc" without quotes. This opens the group policy editor. Then go to:Local Computer Policy then Computer Configuration then Administrative Templates then Network then QOS Packet Scheduler and then to Limit Reservable Bandwidth.Double click on Limit Reservable bandwidth. It will say it is not configured, but the truth is under the 'Explain' tab i.e."By default, the Packet Scheduler limits the system to 20 percent of the bandwidth of a connection, but you can use this setting to override the default."So the trick is to enable reservable bandwidth, then set it to ZERO. This will allow the system to reserve nothing, rather than the default 20%.

Low Virtual Memory Warning - Instant or temperory Fix iT
Why are you getting this alert? When you are not have enough Computer Memory i.e. (RAM) in your computer to handle the tasks that you are request it to perform, your computer will use virtual memory. Virtual memory is an percentage of your hard drive that the computer will use to simulate the function that RAM (Random Access Memory) performs.
The proper way to resolve this trouble and eliminate that annoying pop-up window is to raise your computer’s memory. If you just want to temporaly fix it, follow the steps below:
1. Right click on My Computer and choose Properties.
2. Choose the Advanced tab.
3. At Performance section, click on the Settings.
4. In the Performance Settings, choose the Advanced option .
5. The Bottom section is the where you can set your Virtual Memory or Paging File size.
6. You can change the Maximum Size to a larger number than is already there. Many times it will read 512mb as default. This can be changed to 1gb or 2gb i.e. from 1024kb to 2048kb.
This will eliminate the alert and give your computer more room on the hard drive to use as virtual memory. A word of caution, by increasing this space, you are essentially removing some of your free space on your hard drive. Make sure that you have plenty of free space available (more than 15% free is a good).
This is a temporary solution! The only good way to overcome this warning is to increase the amount of RAM in your computer.

How to increase broadband connection speed in Windows XP/2003?
To speed up the Internet connection speed we need to configure a special buffer in the computer's memory in order to enable it to better deal with interrupts made from the NIC or the USB modem. This tip is only recommended if you have 256MB RAM or higher.
Step #1 - Identify the IRQ used by the NIC/USB modem
Follow these steps:
1.Open the System Information tool by running MSINFO32.EXE from the Run command.
2.Expand System Summary > Hardware Resources > IRQs.
3.Look for the listing made for your NIC (in my case - a Intel(R) PRO/100+ Management Adapter). Note the IRQ next to the specified line (in my case - IRQ21).
In case of USB modems you will first need to find the right USB device used by your modem. Follow these steps:
1.Open the Device Manager tool by running DEVMGMT.MSC from the Run command (or by right-clicking My Computer > Hardware tab > Device Manager button).
2.Scroll down to Universal Serial Bus controllers and expand it.
3.Right-click the USB Root Hub and select Properties. Note that you might need to do so for all listed USB Root hubs (if there are more than one) in order to find the right one.
4.In the Power tab, look for your USB ADSL modem.
5.In the Resources tab look for the assigned IRQ (in this case - IRQ21).
6.This is the IRQ we're looking for.
Lamer note: IRQs and modem names might vary...
Step #2 - Modify the system.ini file
Follow these steps:
1.Run SYSEDIT.EXE from the Run command.
2.Expand the system.ini file window.
3.Scroll down almost to the end of the file till you find a line called [386enh].
4.Press Enter to make one blank line, and in that line type
IrqX=4096
where X is the designated IRQ number we found in step #1, in my case it's IRQ21.
Note: This line IS CASE SENSITIVE!!!
5.Click on the File menu, then choose Save.
6.Close SYSEDIT and reboot your computer.
Done. Speed improvement will be noticed after the computer reboots.

Restarting Windows Without Restarting Your PC
Sometimes, you need to reboot Windows (e.g. when installing new software), but there is no need to restart BIOS, too. However, the default is to reboot both. (That’s called doing a “cold boot,” rather than a “warm boot.”) There’s a trick that works on both XP and Vista to get it to do a warm boot instead, thus saving you 30 seconds per cycle.
The trick is to hold down the SHIFT key when invoking the restart.
Windows Vista: Select Start, then hover over the right arrow that is to the right of the padlock icon until the pop-up menu appears that contains “restart” as one of it’s choices. Hold down the SHIFT key while clicking on the “restart” choice.
Windows XP: Select Start. Select “Shut Down…”. Change the drop-down combo box under “What do you want the computer to do?” to “Restart”. Hold down the SHIFT key while clicking on the “OK” button.

Updated on 27 May 2008:
As suggested by one of the reader Zamora525 another reason behind slow opening of your my computer may be due to a windows service called ‘windows image acuisitions (WIA)’ - Provides image acquisition services for scanners and cameras.
You need to stop it by the commands given below.
1. Open Start >> Run or press window+r
2. type net stop "Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)"

Want to Disable Balloon Tips
I strongly suggest that you backup your registry before attempting this.
Click start -> run -> regedit -> OK
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\
Create a DWORD value of EnableBalloonTips
Let the DWORD value be 0
Thats it. This should do the trick. If anything goes bad, restore your backed up registry.
Want to Remove the Shared Documents folders from My Computer
Until now, that is.
Simply fire up the Registry Editor and navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ My Computer \ NameSpace \ DelegateFolders
You'll see a sub-key named {59031a47-3f72-44a7-89c5-5595fe6b30ee}. If you delete this, all of the Shared Documents folders (which are normally under the group called "Other Files Stored on This Computer") will be gone.
You do not need to reboot your system to see the change.

RUN MORE THAN ONE WINDOWS VERSION ON SINGLE PC
If you want to run Windows 2000 or XP on a system with Windows 95/98 or Me, be sure to follow these rules:
You must have a separate partition or drive, with its own drive letter. Ideally, Windows 9X/Me should go on C:, with Windows 2000/XP on D:. Never, ever try to install two versions of Windows on your C: drive. Install Windows 2000 or XP last, after you get Windows 9X/Me working properly. Then, during Setup, click the Advanced Options button and check the I want to choose the installation partition during Setup box. After you finish setup and restart your computer, you'll be able to choose your operating system from the Windows 2000/XP startup menu. Want to install two versions of Windows 9X or Me on a single computer? If you want Windows 98 and Windows Me on one PC, you must use a third-party "boot manager" program to handle the work.
YOU DONT WANT TO HIGHLIGHT NEWLY INSTALLED PROGRAM??? TRY THIS
To do this
Click Start, right-click at the top of the Start menu where your name is displayed, and then click Properties. In the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box, on the Start Menu tab, click Customize. Click the Advanced tab, and then clear the Highlight newly installed programs check box. Click OK, and then click OK again. Now that message won’t be popping up when you least want to see it.
THE TRIPLE CLICK TRICK
Selecting text can be a fiddly experience, especially if you are using a portable computer with an input device that doesn't work as well as a traditional mouse. So, when you want to cut and paste or copy and paste text, try the triple click. The results vary slightly from one program to another, but most often a single click locates the cursor in the text you are pointing to, a second click highlights the word, and a third click expands the highlighting to the entire paragraph.
This is much faster and more convenient than trying to drag the pointer over a paragraph. After you have highlighted your text, remember to use the right mouse button to access the shortcuts to "cut," "copy" and "paste." There is no point in clicking buttons at the top of the screen or bringing down the Edit menu when the functions you need are right at your finger tip...
GETTING AN OLDER PROGRAM TO RUN ON WINDOWS XP
Right–click the executable or the program shortcut to the executable, and then click Properties. Select the Run this program in compatibility mode check box. From the list, select an operating system that the program runs in comfortably. If necessary, also change the display settings and/or resolution, or disable the Windows XP visual themes. Run the program again when you’re finished changing the settings. Adjust the compatibility settings again if the program is still not running smoothly: a program that’s unhappy on Windows 2000 may flourish on Windows 98.
HOW TO CLEAR ADULT SEX SITES FROM UR INTERNET BOWSER!!!! THE TRICK IS HERE
Answer: This reader's request is a classic. I've seen this question asked dozens of different way. One user said he'd been to "interesting sites" another pleaded for help because his parents were away, but coming back soon.
Anyway, I'm here to help, not to judge, dear reader. On that note, here's how to rid your Web browser of any reference to the material you've viewed. Incidentally it can be used to rid a Web browser of any visited Web site. There are a couple of steps you need to take to clean house. First let's dump the images and site addresses.
Browsers such as Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer save images from visited Web sites on your hard drive whether you click on them or not so that next time you visit you won't have to re-download the image.
But this means that many megabytes of images of all types get saved to you hard drive. Put it this way, if you saw the image then it's on your hard drive.
They also log the address of the site in the browser's history log. To get rid of both, first, figure out which browser you are using.
To do this, start your web browser, the same one you used to visited the site. Click the "Help" menu at the top of your screen and then in the list that drops down click on "About" It may say "About Internet Explorer" or "About Netscape". Choose that option and the web browser's name and version will be displayed. Keep a note of it.
For Internet Explorer, version 4 through 5.5, click on the Tools menu and then click on the Internet Options item. A dialog box will popup. Click "Delete Files" to get rid of cached images. Normally these are either gif or jpg files (something like naughty.jpg or naughty.gif), but they could also be .png files as well, though these are relatively rare. To erase visited web addresses so that they don't appear in the address pulldown menu at the top of the browser, click the "Clear History" button.
For Netscape Navigator, version 6, click on the Edit menu and then click on the Preferences item. A dialog box will popup. Click the arrow next to "Navigator" in the box on the left so that it lists subtopics. Click on the subtopic called "History" then on the right click the "Clear History" button. Also click the "Clear Location Bar" button.
This will get rid of previously visited all web addresses as well as those concealed in the location pulldown menu at the top of the browser window. To get rid of cached images, select "Advanced" and then reveal the subtopics by clicking the arrow next to "Advanced".
Then click "Cache". On the left click both "Clear Memory Cache" to clear images from the current browser session. Click "Clear Disk Cache" to remove image as from the cache folder on the hard drive.
If you have an older browser, click here for further instructions.
Browsers also store visited web site addresses in the pulldown address bar. If switched on, the AutoComplete function will type out previously visited sites if you type the first few letters of the address. It's designed to save time, but if you have visited, lets say, "www.yummysexpots.com" and someone uses the computer after you and wants to go to Yahoo and they type in "www.y" the browser will auto-suggest www.yummysexpots.com, which you may not want.
To turn AutoComplete off in Internet Explorer 5 and later versions go to the Tools menu and choose "Internet Options". Then choose the "Content" tab from the dialog box that pops up and click the "AutoComplete" button and uncheck the Web Addresses box and click "Ok".
In Netscape 6, click the "Edit" menu and then "Preferences". Then select "Navigator" and click the arrow to the left until a list of sub-options appear. Then click "Smart Browsing" and uncheck "Enable Location Bar autocomplete". Then click "Ok". This cannot be turned off in earlier versions of Netscape Navigator.
Older versions of Web browsers don't have this feature built in.
Windows 95/98/Me/2000 users may also want to remove the reference to Web sites in the Documents menu off the Start menu. To do this right click with your mouse on a blank part of the Taskbar (grey strip along the bottom of the screen). Then click Properties. Next click either "Advanced" or the "Start Menu Programs" tab. Click the "Clear" button.
You should also clear your cookies.
ADJUSTING THE DOS WINDOWS
You will also see the familiar copy and paste buttons, but there is no cut button (the scissors). That's because you can't actually cut something from a DOS window because DOS was never designed for cutting and pasting (that's what Mac's and Windows are for). Instead, you can use the "Mark" button to permit you to highlight the area you would like to copy (drag your mouse, just like in Windows). Then select the copy button. Then paste your selection into any Windows program. You can play with the Paste button on the DOS Window too, but it is not very useful.
There is also a "Full screen" button (same as Alt-Enter), and a shortcut to the "Properties" section we looked at last week. If you are a DOS expert, you will appreciate all of the configuration options available in the Properties section. If you don't understand what these options are, then it would be best to leave them alone!
It should be possible, though, to run your favourite DOS program from the past and have it look and feel just the way you want.
OPEN ITEM USING SINGLE CLICK
Open any folder window and click the Folder Options icon (or select Tools, Folder Options). On the General tab, under 'Click items as follows,' select 'Single-click to open an item.'Choose one of the two underlined options, if desired, then click OK.
CHANGE THE LOCATION OF MY MUSIC OR MY PICTURES
Open a My Computer window and navigate to the location where you'd like My Music (or My Pictures) to reside. Then, open the My Documents folder in a different window. Drag the My Music (or My Pictures) folder to the other window, and Windows XP will update all of the references to that folder to the new location, including the Start menu.
ALLOW BOOTING TO THE PREVIOUS OPERATING SYSTEM
1. Change the attributes for MSDOS.SYS so it is not 'Read Only', MSDOS.SYS is found in the root directory of your C:\ drive. Open the file using Notepad or another text editor (not Microsoft Word or any word processor).
2. Change the value of 'BootMulti=' to 'BootMulti=1' for F4 enabled or 'BootMulti=0' for disabled.
3. Changes will take place on the next reboot.
Registry Settings: Key: [MSDOS.SYS]Data: BootMulti=1 (default)
CHANGE THE COLOUR PALETTE OF WINDOWS
At the time of this writing, using Windows XP RC1, the only choices available other than the default blue were olive green and silver. Maybe they plan to add more?
AUTORUN FOR CD OR DVD CAUSES SLOWDOWN?? TRY THIS

DELETING A FILE IN USE BY WINDOWS
[Rename]
nul=D:\PATHFILENAME.EXT
The portion of the second line after nul= should be the full pathname of the file you want deleted, using short filenames (for example, C:\PROGRA~1... rather than C:\Program Files...). To delete a folder, use dirnul= instead of nul=. If WININIT. INI already exists, simply add the appropriate line to the [Rename] section. Now restart Windows. The file will be deleted during the startup process, as will WININIT.INI itself.
Under Windows 2000 and Windows NT4, deleting a file that's in use is more difficult. Your best bet is to restart Windows and try to delete the file before you do anything else.
CREATE A PERSONAL SCREEN SAVER
Right–click an empty spot on your desktop, and then click Properties. Click the Screen Saver tab. In the Screen saver list, click My Pictures Slideshow. Click Settings to make any adjustments, such as how often the pictures should change, what size they should be, and whether you’ll use transition effects between pictures, and then click OK. Now your screen saver is a random display of the pictures taken from your My Pictures folder.
CUSTMIZE WHAT DIRECTORY WINDOWS EXPLORER OPEN WITH
If your tired of Windows Explorer always opening up with My Documents. You can customize it, by changing the properties for the Windows Explorer icon and replace the Target field with:%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /n, /e, c:\yourfolder
This also works with Professional and Server.
SAVE PDF FILES WHERE U WANT
To do this open the PDF file with Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0, a free program available for download from Adobe at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html.
Select the text tool, which looks like a "T" on the toolbar and drag it over the text in the PDF document and then use the copy command from the Edit menu.
Pop into the program you want to put the text into and go to its "Edit" menu and select "Paste".
WANT TO DISABLE RECYCLE BIN
Disable the Recycle Bin (Windows 98/Me/2000/XP)
This setting is used to disable the use of the recycle bin and permanently remove all deleted items instead. This enables the same functionality as holding the Shift key while deleting items.
Open your registry and find the key below.
Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value, called 'NukeOnDelete' and edit the value according to the settings below.
Exit your registry, you may need to restart or log out of Windows for the change to take effect.
Name Type Data --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Default) REG_SZ (value not set) NukeOnDelete REG_DWORD 0x00000001 (1) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion...
Settings Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\BitBucket]Value Name: NukeOnDeleteData Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)Value Data: (0 = use recycle bin, 1 = permanently delete)
CREATE A BOOTABLE FLOPPY DISK IN MS DOS
Place a blank disk in the floppy disk drive. Click Start, and then click My Computer. Right–click the floppy disk drive, and then click Format on the shortcut menu. Click Create an MS–DOS startup disk, and then click Start. Now you’re on your way to a bootable startup disk.
ADD-REMOVE OPTIONAL FEATUES OF WINDOWS XP
To dramatically expand the list of applications you can remove from Windows XP after installation, navigate to C:\WINDOWS\inf (substituting the correct drive letter for your version of Windows) and open the sysoc.inf file. Under Windows XP Professional Edition RC1, this file will resemble the following by default:

The entries that include the text hide or HIDE will not show up in Add/Remove Windows Components by default. To fix this, do a global search and replace for ,hide and change each instance of this to , (a comma). Then, save the file, relaunch Add/Remove Windows Components, and tweak the installed applications to your heart's content.
ADD FIELDS TO THE DETAILS VIEW OF FOLDER
Right–click the column header of the files list, and then click one of the fields listed, or click More. In the Choose Details dialog box, you can reorganize the order of column headers, specify column widths, and add columns to display details for the files in that folder. When you click the new column header, the width of the selected column is displayed in pixels in the Choose Details dialog box.

Scared of spreading computer viruses? Try this to keep your pc safe and clean from Viruses

I wasn't going to cover this widely-circulated "tip" because it's so easy to check for yourself: Just try it: Add the fake name, but enter no corresponding email address. Many email clients will allow you to do this, and indeed will complain when you--- or a virus or worm--- try to send email to that bogus name.
The other reason I avoided presenting this tip is because it only works if your online defenses have already failed: Yes, it may help prevent a virus from spreading from your machine, but by the time this trick works, your PC is already infected. It's far, far better to prevent such infections in the first place. Then, not only will your system not infect others, but *you* won't be infected either.
So add a fake "!0000" (or "AAAAAA" or whatever) name to your address book if you wish, but please realize that this does absolutely nothing to prevent you from being infected in the first place, and so is of limited utility, at best.
